Daily Prayer For Self Love

Recently, I did a little exercise with my family and friends. I asked each of them to name all the things they love. Not a single person said, “I love myself.” They listed everything else -places, people, food, hobbies but never themselves.

My next question was, “What about you? Don’t you love yourself?” Everyone laughed and said, “Of course I do, but I thought you meant everything else.” I replied, “All I asked was to name everything you love.” One of them admitted, “It just feels strange to say out loud that I love myself.”

That moment stayed with me. It made me realise how we live in a society where loving yourself is often seen not just as selfish but as something almost uncomfortable to declare openly. Yet, it shouldn’t be. The energy you radiate flows from who you are deep within.

If you don’t love yourself enough, it inevitably shows in how you relate to others. When you learn to embrace and cherish yourself, that love overflows and becomes something you can share generously with the world around you.

Think about it: the things you dislike about yourself, the habits, flaws, or insecurities you wish you could change, are often the very things you find hard to accept in others too. But when you practise self-love and compassion, you become more capable of extending that same grace to everyone you meet.

So let us be intentional with ourselves. Be mindful. Be kind. Show yourself the love you so freely give to others. Take care of yourself in every sense – body, mind, and spirit. Here’s a prayer for you: may you learn to love yourself wholeheartedly, and in doing so, bring more love into the world.

    Prayer For Self Love

    Dear God,

Thank you for your constant care and patience, even when I drift away or forget to pause and feel your love. In the rush of daily life, I often fill my days with tasks and expectations, losing touch with your peace and with my own heart. Please forgive me for letting my schedule rule over my spirit and for believing I must do everything alone.

I confess that I have pushed myself too hard. I have demanded strength without offering myself compassion. I have silenced the gentle voice within me that longs for kindness, rest, and grace. Remind me, Lord, that I am your beloved creation, worthy of love—not just from others, but from myself.

Today, I come to you not in striving, but in stillness. I bring my weariness and ask you to grant me rest, not only in my body but deep within my soul. Help me understand that true rest is a sacred trust in your goodness, not a sign of weakness.

Teach me to be gentler with myself. I often offer encouragement to others while my own thoughts are critical and harsh. Help me see myself through your eyes, someone beautifully human, learning and growing. Let me speak to myself with the same tenderness you show me.

Lord, help me slow down and remember that my worth does not depend on how much I do. It is a gift you have already given. Teach me to welcome quiet moments and trust that even in stillness, you are near.

Thank you for reminding me that caring for myself is not selfish but honouring the life you entrusted to me. Today, I choose to believe I am enough. I choose to rest without guilt, to breathe deeply, and to love myself as you do.

Let your peace fill my heart. Let your love renew my spirit.

    In Jesus' name, I pray,
    Amen.
