“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
– Isaiah 41:10
There’s something powerful about how we begin our week. The phrase “Begin as you mean to go on” holds deep truth: a strong start sets the tone for everything that follows.
For many of us, the new week comes with uncertainty, new challenges, responsibilities, and the unknown. That’s why anchoring ourselves in Scripture like Isaiah 41:10 can offer the encouragement and reassurance we need.
This verse is a divine message for anyone seeking strength, stability, and reassurance. “Do not fear”, a command that appears repeatedly throughout the Bible. Some say it’s mentioned 366 times – one for each day of the year, including leap years.
Whether or not that’s precisely accurate, the frequency of this command in Scripture is telling. God recognises that fear is a very real and natural human emotion. It has its place, fear helps us avoid danger, keeps us alert, and is a necessary tool for survival in many situations.
But in Isaiah 41:10, God isn’t addressing physical fear like fear of harm or threat. He’s speaking to a deeper, more debilitating fear: the fear that dwells in the heart. This type of fear can paralyse you, keep you from stepping out in faith, and make you question your purpose.
God’s words here are not just comforting, they are empowering. When He says “Do not fear,” He’s not simply encouraging you to be brave on your own. He’s telling you why you don’t need to fear: “For I am with you.”
This is the heart of the verse. God’s presence is not passive, it’s active, strong, and intentional. He doesn’t just watch over you; He strengthens, helps, and upholds you with His righteous right hand. This isn’t just poetic language.
The “righteous right hand” symbolises power, authority, and unwavering support. It’s the hand that doesn’t fail, the hand that lifts you when you are weak, and the hand that never lets go.
It’s important to start your week with this awareness: you are not alone. Walking into the unknown with God is very different from walking into it alone. Think of a child walking through a strange place, if they’re alone, fear is natural. But when they’re holding the hand of a trusted parent, the fear disappears. That’s the kind of security God is offering.
The verse also addresses being “dismayed”, a word that conveys anxiety, despair, and confusion. These are the emotional fruits of unchecked fear. But God counters this by reminding you: “I am your God.” Not just a God, but your God – personally invested in your well-being. He promises to strengthen you and help you, meaning He’ll equip you with the inner resolve to face whatever the week throws at you. And when you feel like you’re about to fall, His righteous hand will uphold you.
Another verse that reinforces this message of divine presence and courage is found in Joshua 1:9:
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
This verse is a powerful reminder as we step into a new week, full of the unknown. Life is unpredictable, we don’t know what the next five minutes might hold, let alone the next seven days. That’s why it’s essential to hold tightly to God, just as a child holds their father’s hand when crossing a busy street.
In this verse, God addresses Joshua, who was about to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land, a land filled with challenges, battles, and giants. The task ahead was monumental, and God sensed fear in Joshua. But instead of scolding him, God reminds him of a command: “Be strong and courageous.” This isn’t a suggestion or a motivational quote—it’s a divine order.
It’s important to understand that courage doesn’t mean the absence of fear. Rather, courage is choosing to move forward despite your fear. Joshua was called to lead, to conquer, and to trust in God’s plan even when the path was uncertain and the opposition intimidating.
God knew the emotional weight of this responsibility, which is why He repeats the command: “Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged.” These are the emotions that keep us stagnant and prevent growth. God didn’t want Joshua to be overwhelmed, and He doesn’t want you to be either.
The reason God gives for such boldness is simple yet profound: “For the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” His presence is not conditional, nor is it confined to church buildings or quiet devotion times. It’s continual and unwavering. Wherever you go this week – into a difficult conversation, a new job, a stressful classroom, or a hospital room—God goes with you.
The week ahead may be full of unpredictability. But when you start it hand-in-hand with the One who knows the end from the beginning, fear loses its grip. Instead of stepping into the week in your own strength, step into it with God’s strength. Let His promises be the lens through which you see each day.
So as you begin this new week, carry these verses with you. Let them fuel your heart with faith, anchor your mind in truth, and remind you that you are never alone. Be strong. Be courageous. Fear not, for the Lord your God is with you, every step of the way.

Fear is a natural part of being human. It’s how we survive and respond to the unknown. But spiritual fear is different. It does not come from God. As the Bible says, He has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. He has given you courage and strength, strength to prosper and courage to protect you on your journey.
When you truly understand what the Lord has spoken about you, and you know that His presence is with you always, fear begins to lose its grip. You may still face uncertainty about the future, about how things will come together.
But knowing and believing that you are walking with God should give you peace. When the moment comes, you will overcome every challenge, not in your own strength, but with divine ease.
You do not need to fear. You need only to believe. Hold on to His words: “Fear not, be courageous, for I am with you. Do not be frightened or dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, and I will uphold you.” He has the power to conquer any adversity in your life and has promised to walk with you wherever you go.
Take this promise with you into every new situation, every moment of uncertainty, and you will find that fear no longer rules you, you will overcome.
