Lamentations 3:22–23
“Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
The book of Lamentations is heavy with sorrow. In it, the prophet Jeremiah laments the destruction and suffering that came upon the people of Israel because of their rebellion and disobedience. It’s a book marked by grief and consequence – a painful record of the results of turning away from God.
Yet, in the heart of this sorrow, we find these surprisingly tender verses. They remind us that even in God’s righteous anger, his love remains. His mercy, compassion, and faithfulness are unshaken. Each new morning is a fresh offering of his grace. No matter how far we stray, his desire to reconcile with us never fades.
This reflects our own lives. We, too, falter. Yet God’s patience never runs out. His steadfast love, marked by loyalty, kindness, and covenant faithfulness, continues to pursue us. Just as he was willing to restore his people, he is willing to restore us, and those we love.
Pray this over the one you love. In a world where people are quick to break ties and give up on each other, ask that the steadfast love of the Lord would never depart from them. That even in moments of distance or rebellion, God’s faithful mercy would reach them, hold them, and lead them back to his perfect peace.
Isaiah 48:17
“This is what the LORD says—your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: ‘I am the LORD your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go.’”
Here, Isaiah speaks directly for God. Even in the midst of Israel’s disobedience, God reaffirms his identity: their Redeemer, their Teacher, their Guide. He reminds them that he alone knows what is best and is committed to leading them on the right path.
This is a powerful image of love, not sentimental or indulgent, but purposeful, protective, and wise. Like a good shepherd, God leads us even when we are prone to wander. His correction comes from care, and his guidance from love.
Pray this over your beloved. That even in seasons of confusion or misdirection, the Lord will guide them. That his love will never let them go, and his voice will always call them back to the path of life.
