One of the major causes of suffering, stagnation, and failure in life can be evil covenants. Whether it is a covenant you knowingly entered into or one that was made on your behalf, perhaps even generations ago. These spiritual agreements can follow a person, bringing hardship and even affecting their descendants.
But here’s the good news: God is greater than any evil covenant. Through Jesus Christ, we have been given the power to break free from every demonic agreement and walk in total victory!

What is a Covenant?
A covenant is a binding agreement between two parties. Throughout the Bible, we see examples of God making covenants with His people, such as with Abraham, David, and Noah. God’s covenants are holy and bring blessings, protection, and divine purpose.
However, demonic covenants work differently. These covenants demand something in return, and if the debt is not paid, they bring suffering and affliction. The enemy never gives anything for free—he always requires a price, often one that brings sorrow and destruction.
Thankfully, through Jesus Christ, every negative covenant can be broken. Jesus already paid the price for our freedom on the cross (Colossians 2:14-15). We do not have to remain bound by agreements that bring harm to our lives.
Types of Evil Covenants
1. Ancestral Covenants
Some covenants have been in families for generations, passed down without the knowledge of those affected. Perhaps an ancestor made a pact with an evil spirit in exchange for wealth, power, or protection. As a result, descendants may struggle with unexplained difficulties, such as barrenness, financial hardship, or sickness.
For example, a person may find that no matter how hard they work, financial success is always out of reach. This could be due to an ancestral covenant where an ancestor exchanged prosperity for something else. These covenants operate spiritually but have real-world consequences.
2. Sexual Covenants
Sexual relationships create deep spiritual connections, and if one partner has been involved in demonic activities, those covenants can transfer to the other. Some people unknowingly enter into spiritual bondage through ungodly sexual relationships, suffering setbacks, oppression, or even strange dreams as a result.
This is why the Bible warns against sexual immorality (1 Corinthians 6:18). It is more than just a physical act, it has spiritual consequences.
3. Blood Covenants
Blood is sacred in the spiritual realm, which is why many occult practices involve blood rituals. Some people make blood pacts with lovers or friends, not realizing they are entering into a binding spiritual contract. Whether through cutting and mixing blood or other rituals, these covenants can invite serious oppression into one’s life.
Not only are these practices spiritually dangerous, but they also pose physical risks, such as the transmission of diseases.
4. Occultic Covenants
Many people knowingly or unknowingly enter occultic covenants through secret societies, witchcraft, or dark spiritual practices. While some seek power, money, or solutions to problems, they later realize that they have become bound to something evil.
The devil never gives without demanding something in return. Those who have engaged in occultic practices often find themselves tormented, unable to break free. But Jesus Christ is able to set anyone free, no matter how deep the bondage.
5. Gift Covenants
Not all gifts are harmless. Some gifts are spiritually tainted and carry demonic covenants. Evil people may use gifts as a way to establish a spiritual connection with someone, leading to torment, setbacks, or spiritual attacks.
This is why it is important to pray over every gift before using it. If someone who harbors ill intentions gives you a gift, especially under suspicious circumstances, be cautious. Discernment and prayer are key.
How to Break Evil Covenants
Breaking an evil covenant is not a simple one-time prayer. It requires persistence, faith, and commitment to God. The key to deliverance is prayer, fasting, and faith in the power of Jesus Christ.
1. Pray with Authority
The Bible tells us that Jesus has given us authority over all the power of the enemy (Luke 10:19). When praying to break covenants, declare in the name of Jesus that every evil agreement in your life is broken.
2. Fast for Deliverance
Some spiritual battles require fasting in addition to prayer. Jesus Himself said that certain kinds of bondage can only be broken through fasting and prayer (Matthew 17:21). If you have been struggling to break free, commit to regular fasting while seeking God.
Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?”
So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. 21 However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”
Matthew 17:19-21
3. Immerse Yourself in God’s Word
Faith comes by hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17). By reading and meditating on scripture, your faith grows, and you gain strength to overcome. Speak God’s promises over your life and reject every lie of the enemy.
4. Renounce Every Covenant in Jesus’ Name
Verbally renounce every known and unknown covenant in the name of Jesus. Say:
“I break every evil covenant that has been made in my life, knowingly or unknowingly. I declare that I am free by the blood of Jesus. Every demonic agreement is broken, and I belong to Jesus Christ alone!”
5. Seek Deliverance if Necessary
Sometimes, breaking free requires deliverance prayers with other believers or spiritual guidance from a trusted pastor. Find a Bible-believing church where you can receive counsel and prayer.

Merciful Lord,
I come before You with a repentant heart, seeking Your forgiveness and cleansing. If I have entered into any ungodly sexual covenant knowingly or unknowingly, I ask that You wash me clean with the precious blood of Jesus.
I renounce and break every spiritual tie that has held me captive due to past sins or unholy relationships. Lord, make me whole again, free from every bondage that has hindered my progress and peace. I declare that through Jesus Christ, I am a new creation, and I walk in purity and righteousness.
Thank you Father for the freedom that comes through your son Jesus Christ.

Prayer to Break Blood Covenants
Dear God, I acknowledge that I may have ignorantly entered into a blood covenant that is now working against my life. But today, I stand on Your Word that declares, “Whom the Son sets free is free indeed” (John 8:36). I denounce and break every evil blood covenant in Jesus’ name! I soak myself in the redeeming blood of Jesus Christ - the blood that heals, restores, and sets free. Let every demonic pact be nullified by the power of the cross. By the blood of Jesus, I declare my total freedom. Amen.

Evil covenants are real, but they do not have power over a child of God who walks in the authority of Christ. Jesus came to set the captives free, and through Him, every chain is broken. No matter the depth of the bondage, God is greater!
