Luke 1:37 Meaning
Mary, though joyful to have found favor with God, wondered how she was going to conceive and bear a child since she was a virgin. In this verse, the angel reassures Mary that the word of the Lord cannot fail. He goes on to tell Mary that even Elizabeth (who was Mary’s cousin), well beyond childbearing years, was going to give birth to John. This was perhaps to let Mary know that nothing is impossible when God declares it, as the angel goes on to mention.
So often we look at our situation and wonder how God’s words and His promises for our lives will come to pass. But in those moments, you need to remember that you serve the God who was able to make a virgin conceive. You serve the God who brought down the walls of Jericho with music (Joshua 6:20). You serve the Lord who created the whole world with just words (Genesis 1). You serve the God who made dry bones come to life (Ezekiel 37:1-14). You serve the God of impossibilities and no word of his will ever fail.
Prayer
Almighty Lord,
I praise your holy name, for you are Lord. You are the God whose words never fail, as it is written in Luke 1:37, "For no word from God will ever fail." There is nothing impossible for you. Because of this, I trust that everything you have spoken about my life will surely come to pass. Please grant me patience and strengthen my faith as I wait for your promises to prevail in my life.
Amen.
