Verse – Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Thoughts

A wage is something you earn, a payment for the work you’ve done. The Bible lets us know in Romans 6:23 that the “wages of sin” is death. This means that the consequence of being a sinner is to die. This is why in Genesis 3, Eve said God told them not to eat from the fruit in the middle of the garden or they would die.

But unfortunately, they were deceived by the devil and ate the fruit they weren’t supposed to, and that sin separated them from God. So sin is essentially an absence of God’s presence. To resist or deny God’s presence in your life is like embarking on a path that leads to spiritual desolation.

But because of God’s unfailing love for His creation, He has made a way to eternal life with Him by sending His Son, Jesus, who paid the price for our sin, satisfying the “wage” on our behalf. So, if sin is a state of separation from God, then salvation through Jesus Christ is a state of union with God.

This is why your sins can not take you to hell but instead, not believing in Jesus Christ is what can take you to hell. Hell, is the ultimate place without God’s presence. A place where all the qualities of God we experience in this life, such as love, peace, and joy, are utterly absent. The birth of Christ brought hope for God’s presence to return to humanity, and His death and resurrection made that union complete. To everyone who receives Him, He gives the right to become a child of God.

God’s presence is given to us freely in the salvation we receive through Jesus. This Christmas, let someone in your life know this wonderful news. Share with them that by believing in Christ, they receive God’s salvation and assurance of eternal life in His presence. Once they place their faith in Jesus, their place in heaven is already secured.
