Revelation 21:4 NIV

Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.
2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.
3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.
4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
Verse Of The Day - Revelation 21:1-4

KJV

And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

CSB

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. I also saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared like a bride adorned for her husband. Then I heard a loud voice from the throne: Look, God’s dwelling is with humanity, and he will live with them. They will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them and will be their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; grief, crying, and pain will be no more, because the previous things have passed away.

NIRV

I saw “a new heaven and a new earth.” The first heaven and the first earth were completely gone. There was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem. It was coming down out of heaven from God. It was prepared like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. I heard a loud voice from the throne. It said, “Look! God now makes his home with the people. He will live with them. They will be his people. And God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death.’ And there will be no more sadness. There will be no more crying or pain. Things are no longer the way they used to be.”

ESV

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

Revelation 21:1-4 Meaning

Looking at the world around us can fill anyone with sorrow. In the beginning, God created a beautiful world and entrusted it to humanity to care for and nurture. Tragically, we have failed as caretakers. We have polluted the lands, contaminated the waters, and caused destruction. We wage wars, spread devastation, and terrify the land.

But isn’t it comforting to know that this world will eventually pass away and there will be a new heaven and new earth? John, in his vision, speaks of a new heaven and earth where the children of God will coexist with Him. In that place, the struggles and pain of this world will no longer exist. All things will be made new, and the former things will pass away.

God is a loving and thoughtful Creator who deeply cares for His people and His creation. That is why He promises to give us a new world. A world free of sorrow and pain, brimming with joy and happiness. Glory be to God!

Prayer

Almighty Lord,

We thank You for the world You created for us and the beauty that surrounds us. Please forgive us for the times we have failed in our responsibility as caretakers of Your creation. We are grateful for the comfort Your Word brings, that You will make all things new, and there will be no more pain or sorrow. We bless Your holy name for the unearned grace and mercy You continually shower upon us.

Amen.
