Colossians 1:22

But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation

Devotional

How many times have you felt unworthy to go before the Lord because of your sins? Perhaps you’ve backslidden, or maybe you’ve made a mistake that fills you with shame. Every Christian has felt this way at some point. That guilt can be so heavy that it keeps us from turning to God, and instead, we drift even further away.

But Colossians 1:22 reminds us of the incredible sacrifice Christ made to reconcile us to the Father. The voice that tells you, “You are unworthy. You are a sinner. You are a hypocrite. You don’t deserve to call on God.” – that is not the voice of God. That is the enemy, trying to keep you from drawing closer to your Father.

Because of Christ’s death, your sins are forgiven. You are worthy to call on God’s name. You are worthy to stand in His presence, not because of anything you have done, but because Christ has made you blameless before the Lord.

No matter what you have done, God already knows. He sees all, and yet, through Christ, He still reaches out to you. Throughout the Gospels, we see Jesus welcoming sinners. When criticized for this, He responded that He did not come for the righteous but for sinners (Luke 5:32).

So, in your brokenness, remember, Christ came for you. He welcomes you with open arms. Guilt and shame should not keep you away from Him; instead, let them be the very reason you run to Him. If you realize you are living in sin, don’t stay there, turn to God. He is always ready to receive you because of the sacrifice of Christ.

Prayer

Merciful and Loving Father,

I come before You with a heart that longs for Your presence. I thank You for the gift of reconciliation, made possible through the precious sacrifice of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Though I am unworthy on my own, You have called me blameless through His blood.

Lord, I lay my sins before You, not hiding, not running, but surrendering. Do not look upon my failures, but upon Christ’s perfect sacrifice. Wash me clean, not just in word, but in the depths of my heart. Remove the guilt and shame that keep me from drawing near to You.

I do not want to remain in sin. I do not want to be distant from You. Teach me, Lord, to walk in Your ways. Strengthen me to turn away from the things that pull me from You, and lead me in a life that honours Your holy name. Let my thoughts, my actions, and my desires reflect the love and righteousness You have called me to.

Thank You, Father, for Your endless mercy. Thank You for welcoming me back with open arms, for never turning away a repentant heart. Because of Christ, I stand before You, not in shame, but in grace, fully known, fully forgiven, and fully loved.

I give You my heart, my life, and my all. Keep me close to You, now and forever.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
