Colossians 3:1
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.
Devotional
Being raised with Christ from the dead is more than a symbolic gesture, it’s a spiritual reality. The moment you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, something powerful happened beyond what the physical eyes could see.
While you confessed with your mouth and believed in your heart, in the spiritual realm, a resurrection took place. You died to your old self, and were raised into a brand-new life.
This means your identity is no longer defined by your past, your failures, your pain, your sins. Those things were buried with the old you. In Christ, you’ve received a new nature, a new spirit, and a new direction. You are no longer who you used to be, because you no longer belong to the old life. You now belong to the kingdom of God.
That’s why Paul encourages us to “set our hearts on things above.” The things above are eternal – righteousness, peace, holiness, truth, purpose, and the will of God.
When we shift our focus from worldly concerns to God’s perspective, we begin to live with a sense of eternal purpose. Our thoughts change, our desires transform, and our character starts to reflect Christ more and more.
Setting your heart on things above doesn’t mean ignoring your responsibilities here on earth, but it does mean approaching life with heaven in mind. It means asking, “What would Jesus do?” It means choosing peace over pride, humility over ambition, and love over resentment. That’s how we begin to live as people seated with Christ in heavenly places—people of authority, freedom, and destiny.
So today, remind yourself: you are not the person you used to be. You are not bound by guilt, shame, or fear. You are raised with Christ. You are a new creation. And your heart is set on things above.
