Psalm 34:18
The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
The end of someone’s life is a depressing, harrowing, and extremely difficult prospect. Everyone has a way they want to die if it becomes necessary.
Most people would wish to go peacefully in their sleep, others would wish it over once and done with. Some would wish to die surrounded by all their loved ones, others can’t bear to see their loved ones hearts breaking as they watch them die.
Death, however, does not always come as we might expect or desire. It often comes unexpectedly and shockingly. You may feel perfectly healthy, only to develop a headache, visit the doctor, and discover you’re terminally ill.
You might faint, regain consciousness, and carry on as if nothing happened, only to collapse later because you didn’t seek medical attention. You could be in a fatal accident with no chance of survival, or be murdered by someone you never knew or expected.
Even those who harbor hatred towards you might catch you off guard. However it arrives, death is a visitor who seldom knocks before entering.
Matthew 11:28
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
On rare occasions, death may knock on your door and announce its arrival, leaving you powerless to stop it. This might happen because you have naturally reached the end of your earthly life, or you’ve been diagnosed with a terminal illness. It could also come through a court sentence, rightly or wrongly convicting you of a capital offense. Whatever the case, know this: God will never abandon His own.
Remember, you were formed from the dust of this earth, created to inhabit it. All living things on earth share a physical form derived from the same source, dust.
However, your life and consciousness come not from the earth but from the breath of God. Because of the world’s fallen nature, brought about by the transgressions of Adam and Eve, life on earth is limited. Diseases, impurities, and evil ensure that our time here is finite.
Yet God, however, can not die. He is eternal, and His breath within you is everlasting. Even when your physical body ceases to function, the breath of God that sustains you will endure.
The question then becomes “where will your eternal life be?”. Pray for your soul and make the choice today to ensure it spends eternity with its Creator, the source of your being, rather than separated from Him.
End of Life Prayers
Prayer for hospice patient
Dear Lord,
I pray to you today with a broken heart. I come before you with a body that is weary and frail. I have lived my life as best as I could, striving to walk in your ways and to please you. Yet, I acknowledge that I have not been perfect. I have sinned against you and against my neighbor.
Even so, I know that I am not of this world. I place my soul into your hands, and I entrust my spirit to your care. Surround me with your angels, that they may stand by my side.
Let the toil and pain I have endured come to an end. Let my journey to you be one of peace and glory. And Lord, I ask that you comfort and heal my family and friends. Help them to find strength in the midst of this tragedy.
Amen.
Prayer for the terminally ill
Dear Lord,
I come to you in humble prayer today. This is something I did not expect. My life was going well, and I was healthy, but this news has shaken my world and turned it upside down.
I pray that you grant me peace. I pray that you bring comfort to my soul and calm to my spirit. Be with me, Lord, and help me through these final moments. Give me the strength to support others who are also facing this journey.
Let my remaining days be filled with courage. Help me use this time to spread awareness about this disease. Lead me to be a voice for change, a loud mouthpiece for action, so that others might avoid the same fate.
Above all, Lord, help me leave a lasting legacy in this life. Let my time here, though limited, make a meaningful difference before it is over.
Amen.
Prayer for the death row inmate
Father Lord,
The time is near for me to face death, and I come to you in prayer. I ask for inner peace, calm, and tranquility in these final moments.
I also pray for those I have hurt. Help them find healing and recovery. Lift them up and guide them toward overcoming the pain I caused in their lives. I acted in anger and without restraint, and I am deeply sorry for what I did that day. Though I cannot take it back, I wish with all my heart that I could.
Help me through this, Lord. I place my soul into your hands and ask you to receive me into your kingdom. I accept your grace and salvation, knowing that it is only through you that I can be redeemed.
Let your angels come for me today. Take away all thoughts of hate within me and fill me with your love and mercy. Welcome me into the gates of paradise, where I may dwell with you forever.
In the name of Jesus, I pray.
Amen.
Prayer for the fatally injured
Father Lord,
Thank you for the gift of life I have received from you. You have sustained and protected me all these years, blessing and guiding me through every difficulty.
It is regrettable that I find myself in this situation. I ask for your mercy to ease my pain. I know that my body cannot recover from this and that I am broken beyond repair. Even so, I trust in your love and grace.
I pray for forgiveness, Lord, first from you, and then from anyone I have hurt. I also pray for forgiveness for those who have hurt me. Cleanse my conscience of any guilt, and reach out to those who have caused harm before they hurt someone else.
Fill me with strength and surround me with your divine mercy. Heal any pain I may be leaving behind, and comfort those who are affected by my departure.
Amen.
Prayer for terminally ill child
Dear Lord,
I pray for this child. They are too young to endure this pain, and it breaks my heart. It is not their fault that this burden has befallen them, and it feels so unfair for their young existence. Yet, Lord, only you know why things happen as they do.
I refuse to believe that their life was for nothing. I pray for grace and understanding to make sense of it all. Calm their young soul, Lord. Let them feel your love and know that you are with them. Though their body may be broken, never let their spirit falter.
Show them how brave they are and how deeply cherished they are by those who love them. Fill them with peace in their transition, and receive them into your bosom with love and glory.
Amen.
Prayer for family of hospice patient
Dear Lord,
Thank you for my family. Thank you for the love they have shown me, for the strength you have given them, and for blessing me with the gift of being born through them.
Let them know how deeply I love and adore them. Let them know how much I appreciate all they have done for me and how blessed I feel to call them my family. Help them understand how grateful I am for their support throughout my life and how much I recognize their sacrifices, pain, and efforts.
In this difficult time, I lift them up to you in prayer. Give them strength and courage to face what lies ahead. Bless them abundantly and heal their broken hearts. Comfort them in their grief, and help them find peace.
Let them know how proud I am to belong to them and how, without hesitation, I would choose them again in another life.

Prayer for suicide victim
Dear Lord,
I am completely shattered by this news. If only I had known their plans, if only I had reached out to them sooner. But I was too late.
I don’t know what caused them to make this choice. I don’t understand what convinced them that all hope was lost. I don’t know who broke their precious heart or what led them to such despair. I don’t know what could have warranted such an abhorrent act.
But Lord, I pray for their soul. I ask that you forgive their actions, and I pray that you receive their bruised spirit into your care. Grant them the peace they didn't have on earth. Wipe their tears away and give them the joy they so desperately searched for. Give them new hope, dear Lord, and grant them salvation.
Amen.
Prayer for victims of war
Dear Lord,
I pray for the victims of war today. I lift up their broken souls and bodies to you. They have been let down by those who swore to protect them, betrayed by corrupt leaders, and annihilated by bloodthirsty forces.
Lord, I ask that you help the children and the innocent. Grant them a place of rest and lead them to your safe haven. Surround them with peace and tranquility, and provide holy water for their souls.
Restore their spiritual strength and bring healing to their hearts. Let us learn from this tragedy, and let it not carry on as it is.

Prayer for forgiveness and salvation
Dear Lord,
At this end, I know it is late for me to change, and it is late for my life to take a different course. I have committed sins against you, and I have committed atrocities against humanity. I have lied, killed, and insulted. I have cheated, bruised, and stolen. My sins are many and uncountable.
But I know that your son came for sinners. I know that he redeemed me through his death. He changed my name to "anointed" and transformed my crimson sin into snow-white grace. I know he paid the debt I could not pay and died the spiritual death that I deserved.
I receive him into my spirit. I accept the price he paid for me. I accept him as my Lord and Savior, and I accept his gift of everlasting life. I receive my place in heaven and count myself among the righteous and redeemed.
Thank you Lord, for the forgiveness of sins and for the gift of salvation.
Amen.
Remember, God is not limited by time or space. He created everything and, therefore, cannot be contained by His creation. This means that it doesn’t matter what you did or did not do in the past. What matters is how you use these last moments.
It doesn’t matter how long it took you to figure out the right path or the right steps for your journey. What matters is that you figured it out. Whether you board the bus to your destination first or last, the important thing is that you got on it.
Get on the bus to heaven. God is ready to accept you. As long as you are willing to be with Him, He is also willing to be with you. In these difficult final moments, make sure your ticket is stamped and ready for heaven.
Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God ; believe also in me.
My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
