Verse – Micah 5:2
But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”
Thoughts
The Prophet Micah speaks of a promised ruler of Israel who will come out of one of the clans of Judah, but not the biggest clan. No, instead he would come from the smallest clan of Judah. This promised ruler is Jesus Christ.
To think the saviour of the whole world would come from a small clan would be unexpected. As humans, we normally expect the big and the “best” from the wealthy. We expect good things and great things to come from those who can afford it.
In 1 Samuel 16, when Samuel sent Jesse to fetch his sons so that one could be king, David was neglected because he didn’t measure up physically in the eyes of man. God, however, does not choose His leaders through the eyes of men.
There are those on earth who still think Jesus was not the Messiah and they are waiting for someone else to come. Even in his time, a lot of people didn’t accept him to be who he was because they expected someone else.
Isaiah described Jesus as someone who had no beauty that would draw people to him and so he would be despised and rejected by people (Isaiah 53:1-3) and that was exactly what happened. When people read the bible about the prophecies of his birth, they expected someone attractive, someone tall, you know, like how the bible described King Saul in 1 Samuel 9:12.
God, however, does not require the permission and measurement of man to appoint the place or the time of His plans. He does what He wants. This should tell you that it doesn’t matter where you come from or what people think of you. Though you may be small in stature or fame, He can take you where He wants you to be.
The end God chooses for you should be what you aim to get to and not what people think you should be. This Christmas tell God to let your light shine through. Tell Him to awaken the purpose He has hidden in you so you can fulfill your potential.

Prayer
Dear Lord
Thank You for my life. Thank You for giving me a purpose that is not defined by where I come from or how I look. Let Your purpose for me shine through brightly. Though I may feel small, reveal the potential You’ve placed within me. Enlarge my boundaries, and let Your plans for my future come alive. Keep me focused, free from distractions that pull me away from Your purpose and let Your grace and favor be my portion forever.
Amen
