Verse – Luke 2:12
This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
Thoughts
The Christmas story often makes Jesus’ birth seem picturesque, as if He were born in a charming, peaceful place, with pleasant sounds and a warm ambiance, just like many Christmas songs suggest. Nativity scenes depict a clean, cozy setting, but the reality was quite different.
Imagine a stable or animal pen, a place that no amount of cleaning could truly make spotless. Farm animals have no sense of cleanliness, so the environment where Jesus was born would have been filled with unpleasant smells, animal droppings, and a generally rough setting. A manger, the place where He was laid, is simply a feeding trough for animals, not exactly the cradle you’d expect for a newborn king.
That the Savior of humankind was born here should speak volumes to us all. He wasn’t born in a palace like the child of a king might be, but in the humblest of places, showing us that Christ truly came for everyone. No matter how broken, lost, or unworthy you may feel, Jesus came to save you. His life began in an obscure and unremarkable location, and He grew up walking among people from all walks of life, showing them that they were loved.
Jesus came for the common person; He came for anyone willing to welcome Him into their heart. Christ is accepting of all and He does not discriminate. This Christmas, let someone know that no matter their past or where they come from, Christ came for them, and they are welcome in His love.
