Verse – Philippians 2:3-4

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
Philippians 2:3-4 meaning

Thoughts

One very important principle of being a Christian is to do things for the right reasons. Some people are drawn to God because of something specific they need from Him. Often when they get whatever it is, they forget about Him until they need Him again.

God is not your personal ATM. Look at the motives behind God’s actions and learn to do the same. God is love. God is merciful. God is kind. These phrases look simple and easy to understand but what they mean is that God can never run out of these qualities.

There is a difference between God is love and God has love. The has there would mean that God only shows love and can stop at any time. God is love means it is His nature and the amount of love He has cannot be measured. God shows us mercy because He is merciful not because He has mercy. He sent His son to die for us for this reason. He expects us to do the same.

When you do a good deed, do not do it because you expect something back. Do it because that is the quality of a Christian. When you give, do it because you want someone to benefit from your generosity and not because you expect something from God.

No matter what you do, do it because of others and not because of yourself. There is no material thing you can receive in return that can surpass the blessings of God. He always looks at the heart to see the motives behind what you do. Whatever you do, do it with love.

Prayer

Dear Lord,
Please help me to understand my roles and purpose as a Christian.
Remind me daily of the grace with which You redeemed me.
Let my actions be selfless and true,
May they draw others closer to You.
Help me to touch the lives of those who need Your love and guidance.
Use me as an instrument of Your goodness,
And let my faith grow stronger in You with every passing day.

Amen.
