Verse – Psalm 37:4
Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Thoughts
There is a difference between what you physically desire through your eyes and what your heart desires. It is true that you can set your heart on something for so long that you start thinking your heart desires it. This is not the case.
Only God knows what your heart truly desires. That is why you can sometimes go after something with all your strength and your resources but once you get it, you realise that you don’t want it after all. God is the one who created you and He knows what you truly desire. It’s not about what you think you desire but about what God knows will help you.
In today’s verse, the bible is saying that if you delight yourself in the Lord, He will give you what your heart desires. Remember everyone looks at the outward but God looks at the state of your heart. If you set your heart on things that may harm you or cause your downfall in life, then those aren’t the desires that God will grant in your life.
If you set your heart on evil things, the Lord will see you for who you truly are and reject you. But if you take delight in the things of the Lord He will give you the true desires of your heart – the things that will actually help you in life and draw you closer to God and His purpose for your life.
You may think that you desire a brand new car or a new house but God will know that you truly desire peace and good health. He will save you from mischief or some kind of accident that may be waiting around the corner for you.
When you seek after the things of God, He will deliver you from the consequences of your mistakes that you don’t even know about. Those who delight in evil do not know the evil that awaits them. They may be joyous today but their tomorrow is completely up in the air. Only God knows the future and He can save you from impending doom. This is why we must follow Him wherever He teaches us to go.

Prayer
Dear Lord,
I ask that you help me set my eyes solely on You. Let my heart yearn for You and find delight in Your presence. Guide me to reject the temptations of this world, and lead me away from bad company that distracts me. Help me keep my focus on Your Word, and fulfill the desires of my heart in alignment with Your will.
