Verse – 1 Timothy 3:4-5
He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him, and he must do so in a manner worthy of full respect. (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?
In this letter to Timothy, the overseer of God’s church is described. Among other attributes, they are supposed to be ‘above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money‘.(1 Timothy 3:2-3)
These attributes should not just be specific to those who want to lead the church but rather to anyone who believes they are capable of watching over the institutions of God. If you want to be a leader of a nation, a province, a district, or a state, you must have all of these qualities.
God loves His children and only desires the best for them. However, He works through humans on earth to make sure that His people who call on Him day and night receive all the earthly possessions that He has left them. This requires leaders to be in tune with God’s directions and have the qualities listed. These qualities show God that you can handle the big task He gives you which is to take care of His people.
If you find yourself in a place of power now where decisions you make affect the lives of lots of people, you should know that it is God who has called you to be a leader. You must therefore live your life with the attribute that has been listed above.
When people in places of power lack these attributes, the children of God suffer and they cry endlessly to Him. You must not allow yourself to be used by the devil when you find yourself as a leader of men. God will judge leaders who cause the children of God to lament and regret their existence. It is He who appoints kings, queens, and presidents. you must therefore do as it is expected of you if you find yourself in this position.
A leader who cannot be influenced by bribes, does not give in to drunkenness, is not violent but gentle, and is not quarrelsome becomes a great leader for His people and helps them directly receive the blessings of God.
